Circle K9 Boarding is happy to board your dog while you travel this summer, but if you decide to have your dog travel with you, remember this helpful advice on how to have the best possible experience.
Taking Fido on an airplane ride seems daunting, but it can be less so if you observe some simple procedures. First, make sure your dog is properly immunized according to your airline’s rules and that you bring your dog’s immunization papers with you on the flight. Next, verify whether your dog will be flown in the cabin or in the cargo hold. Most airlines base this distinction, and the cost for Fido’s travel, on his weight. Finally, invest in an airline approved cage and accessories such as water bottles and towels to ensure hydration and comfort.
Car travel safety seems relatively simple, but dogs can still have a tough time adjusting to long drives. First, choose the safest seat INSIDE the car for your dog. All too often, dogs are seen with their heads hanging out of open windows. Even if your dog has never tried to jump out in the past, never assume that he won’t ever try to make a leap. Also, consider investing in a doggie seat belt or harness to keep your pooch secure during the drive. Check the local laws to make sure you are transporting your dog legally this summer.
Following the above advice is always a good idea, but it can’t ensure that your dog will behave perfectly. As such, we recommend getting your dog trained with us here at our Magnolia, Texas facility prior to travel. By investing time in training your dog, you build a trusting relationship with your pet and can expect better travel behavior from him or her, whether in the air or on the road.
Circle K9 hopes you make many great memories while traveling with your pet outside of the Houston, Texas area.
